Teaching to Transform
Strategies to Promote Deep Learning + Change
What is it: This workshop details the social and emotional challenges that historically under served students face when they enter community college. Using a highly successful program as a case study, this workshop provides a structured approach to designing pedagogy and institutional support systems specifically to address the most difficult challenges of these students. Learn how to:
- Use support and positive feedback to guide students through the tumultuous aspects of transformation
- Guide students as they explore possible futures
- Help students transition from school to the workforce through immersive learning environments
Who should attend: This workshop is intended for community college faculty, staff, and administrators who want to drastically improve the completion rates and post-graduation outcomes of their most vulnerable students.
Why you should attend: The path to a college degree is different for everyone, but that path is often longer and more difficult for nontraditional (and historically under served) students enrolled in community colleges. For these students, the college experience often involves some type of transformation.
